Fun as a Metric, R2R2R + Men with Dumb Comments - June 2025 Life Recap
Monthly check-in for people who, like me, like to snoop on others' lives.
Towards the start of every month, I share a look back at the previous one. It’s a fun way to share behind the scenes of my goals while staying accountable to reflection!
June’s Recap ✍️
Theme was: “Fun as a Metric.” 🎉What if I didn’t optimize for time or money or miles or impact but… fun?! And fun I had.
A Rogue River rafting trip, directing an all-women’s trail race, annual wine ‘n’ bike ride, two more weddings, a storytelling night in a new location, friends surprising me with a handmade “aid station” during an 18 mile training run… None of these things were meant to be the most efficient, the most affordable, the most anything — just fun!
Big wins: All of the above! We had 310 runners at the Wild Woman Trail Runs. I had three amazing brands support the event. I shared the stage with 9 storytellers at a beautiful outdoor venue for a Gorge Speakeasy spinoff. I paddleboarded some baby rapids after not paddling much all last year. Big Summer Energy.
Challenges: All my May challenges rolled over into the next month: No free weekends, cleaning the garage to sell stuff on Facebook Marketplace (HALP), a dead car so having to share one with my partner, a couple late night/wee hours of the morning drives to fit in the adventures. Worth it. ✌️
Core 4 and Angie 3.0 progress: For anyone following along since New Year’s Day, you’ll notice I’m not switching anything up — because it’s been feeling damn good to “get outside by 11,” “breakfast before coffee #2” and “sun before screens.”
I don’t feel a need to add more to my now “Core 3”, but I am rolling around a vision of Angie 3.0… She has more day-to-day spontaneity, mini trips away with friends, and smarter financial management. She has less email urgency, rushing errands, and the feeling of “I need to catch up.” Give it to the end of Q3… ;)
50M race training progress: We’re in the several hour training run world again!🏃♀️ I felt great on my 3.5 hour run, and it was an absolute joy when Hannah and Jeni surprised me at an “aid station” mid-run! 🥲 LOOK AT THIS!
I love my training plan since it alternates long long run weeks with short long run (2 hour) weeks, so it doesn’t burn me out. I do want to add in a few adventure runs (objective > time) and get some descent practice (since my race will have 6,500’ of loss).
Best thing I spent money on: I’m thrilled that my spending was relatively low this month. I think part of it was being more conscious about unnecessary spending, since I knew some freelance projects were decreasing and I wasn’t sure what income would look like. Scrolling back through it all, what honestly brings me the most joy is seeing a few small donations to The Cairn Project, supporting wilderness scholarships for girls and women. The June 100 campaign I set up for them has some awesome women with awesome goals, from 100 pitches of climbing to 100 dog walking miles. 👏 Those $5-10 donations really help, y’all.
Worst thing I spent money on: Why is it so hard to find a comfy watch strap?! I’m obsessed with my watch but it’s an old enough model that they don’t make replacement straps for it anymore. The $27 one I bought in an attempt to find something more ethical than Amazon is still meh. Niche question, but got any running watch strap recs?
New in the media:
A goofy post for anyone who’s trying to date in a mountain town.
When AWExpeditions posted a video showing the incredible group of women who climbed Aconcagua (a 23,000' peak) together, the comments were from a tired old narrative: "Hopefully there were men posted along the way to give them directions." "They'd have to ask a cameraman to set up tents and a campfire." "That's a lot of unwashed dishes." "They'd all be dead in one day." 🙄 Here’s why we need more women sharing adventure stories.

July’s Focus
Theme: “Find Spaciousness.” - This will likely be the whole of Q3’s focus. 😌 The first half of 2025 brought some freaking awesome things, but I started to feel a bit… energetically breathless again. July’s calendar is mercifully open (relatively, ha) and I’m determined to keep it that way (and beyond). Spacious is one of my 2025 words and I need a reminder this month on how much it matters to me.
Excited for:
The launch of the Gorge Dating Show! 7/2, tickets here!
Officiating a wedding for some fave friends. 😍
Open weekends! Adventure runs! Few meetings! Spaciousness!
Looking for:
Your recs on outdoor-related brands (apparel, guides, gear, media, whatever) who say/show they want to support women. 🌲
A quick 5 star rating or review for See Her Outside, pretty please? 🙏 Apple/Spotify
Work together:
PLANTING A SEED… Would you want to run Rim to Rim to Rim with me through the Grand Canyon this October? Something’s a-brewing with athlete Sunny Stroeer, and if we get enough interest in that, we might open more spots for runners… 👀
